AAt the beginning of 2009 BGK Bunkers added a new offshore location for ship-to-ship bunkering south-east of Jazireh-ye Larak Island in the Strait of Hormuz. This adds to the company’s existing offshore location south of Jazireh-ye Hormuz Island and the onshore port facility at Bandar Abbas. Located very close to the major shipping lanes in and out of the Persian Gulf, the new location at Larak is ideal for VLCCs because is needs almost no deviation from their route and In addition, the anchorage provides a depth of water that is both safe and reliable even for VLCCs, without the risk of anchor and cable fouling sometimes encountered at other locations outside of the Strais where the water depth exceeds 100m. The geographic location of both the Hormuz and Larak Islands ensures shelter position for vessels all year long. The Larak anchorage also offers good holding ground and searoom even for the maneuvering of VLCCs, avoiding the congestion and collision risk of busier locations. At both the Larak and Hormuz offshore locations ship owners benefit from the cost savings of an offshore transfer, since there are no port dues for “bunker call only vessels” to be paid. At the same time the whole bunkering operation takes less time and no port clearance is required. Ship-to-ship deliveries at the new Larak location are made with Genius, BGK Bunkers’ newly acquired 10,000 DWT coastal tanker that assures best in class flow rates for shorter delivery times, plus four other bunker tankers with capacities from 2,700 to 30,000 DWT. The company also operates its own jetties and a tank farm with a capacity of 84,000 metric tonnes that is supplied by pipeline directly from the refinery at Bandar Abbas, providing dependable supplies with a consistent high quality and competitive cost. Thanks to the premium quality of the bunkers there is less sludge generated and no clogging of purifiers. |
